About this Book

A thorough examination of the life and works of the Very Revd Prof James S. Stewart, focusing on his work as a teacher and a mentor to thousands. Extensively researched, this ‘theological biography’ will stimulate the discussion about role of the Imagination in Christian preaching and the way it was mastered by one of the most influential preachers of the last century.

This is the first book to be written about James S. Stewart since his death in 1990, and forms a perfect companion to all previously published collections of Stewart's sermons. Krueger introduces the reader to the life and work of this magnificent communicator of the Christian Faith, presenting not only his lectures and publications, but also his preaching legacy. It also includes a biographical introduction to his family history, his studies at university and his experience in the trenches of First World War.

From the analysis of Stewart’s first published works through to the study of the different stages of his preaching, the author takes the reader in a journey to discover the role of the Imagination in Christian Communication and the crucial importance for on-going evangelism.
