About this Book

Written for young children, these four simple picture stories explain clearly the role of God in the life of a child. Each full-page picture is accompanied by one line of text, describing the joys and rewards that belief in God brings.

The four stories are entitled Faith in God, The Love of God, The Presence of God, and The Word of God. Each develops its theme using examples and situations from every-day life, to emphasise the book’s message that God is all around us. The charming, gentle pictures, by an award-winning illustrator, will delight any child.

These stories, already available as four separate board books, are now published as a compendium hardback volume in response to demand.

Reviews and Comments

"This is a lovely children’s book. An excellent book beautifully illustrated."
The Daily Mail

"As well as being a valuable book to have in the family home it would be useful for children’s liturgy groups; my own parish group liked it very much. An appealing book with a message for all of us."
Avril Rickarby, CWL News

"Each book is a series of short and generally simple sentences that at times skilfully use language that helps to translate our understanding of God to younger children. The illustrations are well presented with warm, soft, colours. Teachers may use this book to introduce a different category of non-fiction text. What is God Like? contains ideas which convey understanding of more complex issues and will provide an opportunity to stimulate discussion and questions. It could, for example, be used with a selection of prayer books from different denominations. This book would be a useful resource in the classroom as it would enable the teacher to sit with children and quietly talk and reflect for a few moments, perhaps as an introduction to a lesson or collective worship. Overall this is an attractive and gentle book which would be a useful addition to RE resources."
Liz Connolly, Headmaster , St Catherine of Siena RC Primary School, in English Four to Eleven

" 'What is God Like?' might seem a complex, imponderable question to adults, but the author of this small book has managed to convey her beliefs in simple terms by using similes which relate to children and their lives. An interesting way to tackle a difficult subject and useful as a starting point for RE in Key Stage 1."
Somerset Children’s Book Review No.26

"If you are parent or you work with children, this little book could be helpful to you. Christian concepts are tackled in a simple but very effective way. The separate sections could be used with a range of ages. It is a book you could return to time and time again and it could be read independently when children are more familiar with the content. There are many profound truths in this children's book that we as adults would do well to take on board. Highly recommended."
Tricia Courtman, Association of Christian Teachers
