Job Vacancies and Work Experience

We have no job vacancies at present.

We do offer periods of unpaid work experience of not less than two months in the Sales and Publicity Department, and not less than two months in the Editorial Department.

If you are a student or recent graduate who is considering a career in publishing, a period of work experience may help you to decide whether this will be a suitable career for you. A longer period provides a much better grounding than a few weeks, and also makes it possible to provide more rewarding and interesting work.

Our offices are in Cambridge, which is a delightful place in which to live and work, but applicants should be aware that it can be very difficult to find accommodation, and that housing costs are very high.

Work Experience Opportunity in the Sales and Publicity Department

Publishing involves making the world aware of the books that are being produced, and promoting new titles and the backlist is a key element. The marketing carried out by the Sales and Publicity Department lies at the heart of the publishing process, and on its success hangs the future of the publishing house.

The Sales and Publicity Department designs and puts together sales and promotional material, writes blurbs, maintains databases of customers and the media and the increasingly important bibliographical databases, prepares marketing campaigns, leaflets and review lists, as well as corresponding with authors, booksellers and journalists, and more mundane – though no less essential – tasks, such as office filing. We also pursue new leads, and contact potential outlets and sales channels for new books and backlist titles, and promote the list and imprint as a whole.

We offer work experience placements of not less than two months. The placements are unpaid.

If you are interested in coming and would like to discuss the possibilities, please email us at sales@lutterworth.com, or see our Contact page for our full contact details.

Work Experience Opportunity in the Editorial Department

If you are a student or recent graduate who is considering a career in publishing, a period of work experience may help you to decide whether this will be a suitable career for you.

The Editorial Department deals with manuscript submissions, edits texts and prepares them for publications, and is also responsible for rights and permissions and book design.

Work involved ranges from the mundane, such as filing and maintaining a database of projects under consideration for publication, through rejecting unsuitable scripts, corresponding with authors and external advisers, copy-editing and proof-reading, designing books and covers, and dealing with rights and permissions enquiries.

We offer work experience placements of not less than two months in the Editorial Department. The placements are unpaid.

If you are interested in coming and would like to discuss the possibilities, please email us at publishing@lutterworth.com, or see our Contact page for our full contact details.
